3 Tips to Succeed in 2020

by Kim Shiver, M.Ed, Speaker, Communications Strategist

The first month in 2020 is gone. Where are you with your goals, resolutions, and productivity? Are you getting done each day and week what you want to accomplish? If not. Where will you be, at the end of the year?

As a business strategist, my focus is to help businesses grow. Even if you aren’t in business, these tips can help you accomplish your goals for 2020.

1 – Plan It

Without a plan, you don’t know what you want to accomplish, how you want to accomplish it, have no way to track if you’re getting there, and don’t know if it’s profitable.

Many times, companies are making sales, seeming to grow, but doing so at a loss that breaks the business and sometimes the owner.

When you create a plan and track it, you’ll have a true picture of what is happening in your business. You’ll know what’s profitable and what’s not which leads you to knowing what you need to do and what you need to stop doing.

2 – Prioritize It

It seems like almost everyone has more to do than they can accomplish. Yet, some people get more done with the same 24 hours we all have than others. One key to getting things done is successful prioritization.

Look at your list. Look at your top goal, and ask – what is the most important thing you need to do to accomplish it?

Sometimes, people aren’t even working on that important thing. This should be the thing you work on and focus on until you accomplish it.

For example, if your biggest goal is to make $7000 a month. For each task you’re going to complete, ask yourself – “Is this moving me towards my goal?” If so, it belongs on your calendar. If not – look at cutting it or delegating it.

Of course, there are some things we can’t get away from like bookkeeping and taxes (even though they aren’t actual revenue streams). In this case, outsource when you can and be as efficient as possible when you have to complete the task.

3 – Schedule It

If you want to make sure you do something, put it on your calendar. Without a schedule, things don’t get done. A mental note of, “I’d like to get to that” – just doesn’t work.

Whether you’re looking at completing a project, going to the gym, or setting aside time for meditation – put it on your calendar and treat it like you would the most important thing in your life.

Schedule it and Succeed.

The key to success is to FOCUS on the goal. The way to focus is to plan, prioritize, and schedule. This will give you the tools to succeed.
