Our countries of origin or ancestors have entirely different histories, cultures, languages, governments, food, and customs than another neighboring country and of course, our home, the United States.
If we look at the states or provinces of these countries of origin, we can say that each one of them has completely different customs, accents, and ways of life than their neighbors. With this, we can reaffirm that in a single country, the cultures are different, much more so from country to country.
During my stay in the United States, it has been amusing to hear many people say that all Hispanics are the same. And perhaps it is a perception that can be had among Europeans, Arab or Asian countries. Although there are physical characteristics, languages, or similar traditions, the differences can be more significant than we imagine.
The United States is one of the most diverse countries in the entire world. In 2021 the figures showed that 27% of the population is from another race, and of this percentage, 19% are of Hispanic origin. In Australia, for example, only 25% are Australian, and 70% are from another race. Canada has only 16% of its population is Canadian; the remaining percentage comes from different countries of the world. These numbers allow us to affirm that migration has been and will be a phenomenon that will impact many countries in the future.
Demographic, cultural, or religious diversity is everywhere. Sometimes it isn’t easy to understand or accept people’s beliefs or habits; however, when we make the best of those differences, there is always something to learn and share. In this sense, creating scenarios and spaces where the best of each one is learned is essential.
One of the existing scenarios in Brevard County is the Multicultural Networking Group led by the Greater Palm Bay Chamber of Commerce. This group was born with the idea of promoting and guiding businesses of people from other nationalities who need resources to create or grow their businesses but do not have enough knowledge to do so. There are differences in how we do business in different countries, and it is important to follow regulations and processes and of course, offer goods and services that are relevant for local consumption.
This group facilitates the interaction of different cultures, highlighting the benefits of each one of them and creating business opportunities.
The Multicultural group meets once a month in different locations. Nuestros países de origen o de nuestros ancestros tienen historias, culturas, idiomas, gobiernos, comida y costumbres completamente diferentes a otro país vecino, y por supuesto a nuestro hogar, los Estados Unidos.
Si hacemos un recuento de los estados o provincias de estos países de origen podemos decir que cada uno de ellos tiene costumbres, acentos, formas de vida completamente diferentes a la del vecino. Con esto, podemos reafirmar que si en un solo país las culturas son diferentes, mucho más de país a país.
Durante mi estadía en Estados Unidos ha sido muy gracioso escuchar a muchas personas decir que todos los hispanos somos iguales. Y quizás es una percepción que se puede tener entre europeos, países arabes o asiáticos. Si bien hay características físicas, idiomas, o algunas tradiciones similares, definitivamente las diferencias pueden ser más significativas de lo que imaginamos.

La diversidad demográfica, cultural, o religiosa está en todas partes. A veces es difícil entender o aceptar las creencias o los hábitos de las personas, sin embargo, cuando tomamos lo mejor de esas diferencias, siempre hay algo que aprender y que compartir. En este sentido, es importante crear escenarios y espacios donde se aprende lo mejor de cada uno.
Uno de los escenarios existentes en el Condado de Brevard es el grupo Multicultural liderado por la Cámara de Comercio de Palm Bay. Este grupo nació con la idea de impulsar y orientar negocios de personas de otras nacionalidades que necesitan recursos para crear o hacer crecer su negocio pero que no tiene el conocimiento suficiente para hacerlo. Hay diferencias en cómo hacemos negocios en diferentes países y es importante seguir la normatividad, los procesos y por supuesto ofrecer bienes y servicios que sean relevantes para el consumo local.
Este grupo facilita la interacción de diferentes culturas resaltando los beneficios de cada una de ellas creando oportunidades de negocios.
