Happy to share your writing? by April Cobb

Come join us for an uplifting experience of creative writing.

My name is April Cobb, and I write a monthly article here in Spotlight Brevard Magazine on page 23 titled April’s Travels Weekender on a Budget. I’ve been writing about exciting places here in Florida for a year now.

My love of writing started as a hobby just a few years ago. I wasn’t planning on sharing my writing with others until one day; I asked my husband if I could read it aloud to him. A little roll of the eyes and I had hooked my first captive audience. He promised to get me published, and he kept his word. I have now completed two of the books in Cassie’s Delicious Saga/trilogy. While writing wasn’t my dream, it has become a great hobby.

One day, while I was at Cocoa Beach Public Library, I was approached by Edmond McClam, the adult programming librarian and staff member. He asked me if I was interested in hosting a symposium as the resident author for a year. It was a huge commitment. I gladly accepted and have been enjoying the opportunity it presents.

Our group meets the first Tuesday of each month at 11 a.m. at the CBPL in one of the conference rooms. Following my syllabus, we delve into the many topics of writing. We are going to share and discuss our second assignment this March 5th. If you care to join us the assignment is 350 words of your topic choosing.

Ours is a friendly group of enthusiastic writers, some published, and others enjoy the comradery of fellow like-minded hobbyists. I feel that sharing writing experiences among like-minded people is always refreshing. Whether you write for self-edification, as I did when I started, or for the purpose of publication, as I eventually did, writing is an art form. Like clay, you can mold it and conform it to your suiting.

So drop in and join us! …and don’t forget to tell them April sent you.
