Celebrating 25 years / Marine Bank & Trust

Chartered in 1997, Marine Bank will soon be celebrating 25 years of helping local residents achieve the dream of home ownership, assisting business owners in growing their business, and supporting the agencies who make the community a better place to live.

As a community bank, Marine Bank has long been known for its highly personalized customer service, local decision-making, and responsive, accessible bankers. Customers know that if they have questions, they can always call a banking center and never be placed into an automated telephone maze.

However, for those seeking high tech convenience over high touch service, a community bank may not have been their first choice. But that has changed.

“Bigger banks may have been first out of the gate with online products and mobile banking, but the playing field’s been leveled,” said Marine Bank President and CEO Bill Penney. “Our customers enjoy enhanced online and mobile banking and bill pay, Google Pay and Apple Pay, robust cash management services and can even get pre-qualified with our new Marine Bank Mortgage: Mobile app.”

As a result of its winning combination of high touch service and high tech convenience, more than 99% of Marine Bank customers who responded to a service survey for more than four years said they would recommend the Bank to others. Additionally, Marine Bank has been named among the top extraordinary banks in the United States by The Institute for Extraordinary Banking and received the Institute’s Banky™ Award for its commitment to strong community banking.

Marine’s Melbourne banking center at 3303 Suntree Boulevard on the southwest corner of Suntree Boulevard and Wickham Road opened in January of 2018.

“Our branch has been well received by the community over the past three and a half years,” said Melbourne branch manager Charlie McCoach. “Our focus on building relationships with customers helps us to better meet their needs and they appreciate that and tell their friends and colleagues.”

Despite the pandemic, Marine Bank reported record earnings and growth in 2020 fueled in part by the bank’s active participation in the SBA’s Payroll Protection Program.

“2020 was the most difficult operating environment I have witnessed,” added Penney. “Yet it was equally rewarding. I’ve never been more proud to be a banker than witnessing our team work round the clock to help bring capital to Main Street and preserve our customers’ dreams. We exceeded their expectations and they rewarded us with their business.”

In 2020, Marine Bank processed 790 Small Business Administration (SBA) Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) applications totaling more than $62 million which, based on the information provided by the borrowers’ applications, kept an estimated 6,500 employees on their employers’ payrolls for eight weeks.

“I was incredibly impressed with the Bank’s response during the COVID-19 crisis,” said Meili Viera, MBA, MSRED, of Waterman Real Estate in Melbourne. “They were phenomenally helpful and went above and beyond for my needs as well as my clients.”

Marine Bank has $488 million in assets with four full-service branches in Vero Beach, Sebastian, and Melbourne, and a loan production office in Port St. Lucie. For more information, visit the website at www.marinebank.bank.
